\Maruti Alto is one of the incarnations of the a common platform, designed with the Japanese principles of kei-ji-dosha which strictly decide the dimensions a car must confirm to in order to be called a small car, in japan that is. As a matter of fact, it is the elder brother of the maruti 800. At one point of time, maruti was selling 3 versions of the maruti 800 here - the 800, Alto and the old Zen. All are different generations of same model.
Launched eight years ago, the Alto has displaced the M800 as Maruti's flagship company in the domestic market. Moreover, this model is also exported to other countries including Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, Finland, Greece, Austria, Ireland, the UK, France, Italy and Sweden and now it plans to start exporting it to new markets like Denmark, Hungary and Portugal.
So far it has exported nearly 2 lakh Altos. During FY 2007-08, Maruti sold sold 227,170 units in the domestic market. Alto sales have actually picked up very fast over the last 24-30 months. While Maruti only sold around 500,000 units of the Alto within the first six years of the car's launch, it has sold around the same number over the last two years.
Update: Alto K10 Launched - Base Variant Priced At Rs. 3.03 Lakhs
Maruti Suzuki has launched a new version of its best selling Alto with the K10B engine. The base model of Alto K10 is priced at Rs 3.03 lakhs and top mdoel is available for Rs 3.16 lakhs. The car will co-exist with the current 800cc Alto, offering a plusher option with more punch and better fuel efficiency.
From the images on right side you can clearly see the design changes which includes all new front and rear bumper, new headlamps/tail lamps, new fog lights and new radiator grille. Design & Styling of New Maruti Alto K10
The most prominent changes visible in the Maruti Alto K10 are the new eagle eyed headlamps which give Alto K10 a bold look, it also features all new tail lamps which are rounded from top which look much better in comparsion to the design of Alto 800cc. The front bumper of Alto K10 has integrated fog lamps which will come as standard in top variant. The front grille is also new with three horizontal slats in matte black finish with a big dominating Suzuki logo in centre. Other than these changes Alto K10 is similar in terms of looks and styling to the Alto 800cc.
Interiors of New Maruti Alto K10
The interiors of Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 are more refreshing and rich in terms of looks and design. The two-tone interiors looks very cool and give Alto K10 upmarket look. The steering wheel is all new with a big Suzuki logo in centre which looks awesome. The instrument cluster is also new, it now comprises much needed tachometer. The speedometer is flanked by tachometer on the left side with fuel gauge, temperature gauge and digital tripmetern odometer on the right side. The top variants of Alto K10 also features front power windows.

Engine & Fuel Efficiency of New Maruti Alto K10
The 998cc, 3 cyl, MPFi, KB-series engine of New Alto K10 will be the same which is powering the Maruti A-Star, it generates maximum power of 67 Bhp with maximum torque of 90 Nm. With this engine New Alto K10 will perform very well in terms of acceleration and top speed. The company is claiming an ARAI approved figure of 20.2 kmpl for the light and zippy car.

Brand Alto, India's largest selling car brand, now gets even more strength. Maruti Suzuki today launched another version of Brand Alto, equipped with a K-series, 998 cc engine. This version, called 'Alto-K10', comes with improved suspension, new cable-type transmission, superior brake system and more knee-room for rear seat passengers. The existing Alto clocks average sales of over 20,000 units every month. Maruti Suzuki expects the Alto-K10 to bring in additional customers.
